A unified platform for safer healthcare globally

Risk reporting, audits and staffing sat in separate products, all adding admin to clinical work. We turned the strategy deck into something the whole business could see, test and back.

RLDatix

RLDatix is a global leader in healthcare software, providing cloud-based solutions focused on patient safety, risk management, and workforce scheduling. Their platforms help hospitals and healthcare providers worldwide improve operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver safer patient care.

RLDatix

Thunk helped us turn a complex ambition into something tangible. The prototypes and vision they created gave us a clear path for unifying our platform and exploring intelligent automation. It accelerated our roadmap, built internal alignment, and gave us a powerful story to share with customers.

Miles Barr, Chief Technology Officer, RLDatix

RLDatix had grown through acquisition, building a suite of standalone tools for everything from risk reporting to audits and staffing. Without integration, users faced higher admin burdens, missed opportunities for joined-up care, and the complexity of navigating between disconnected products. Leadership could see what the platform could become and needed help showing it.

Six weeks later RLDatix had prototypes showing what a unified platform would actually do, and the internal conversation moved on from whether to how.

Before

Each product did the job it was bought to do. The difficulty was what happened between them, where a single piece of clinical work crossed three of them.

Everyone agreed the products should be one platform. What nobody had was a version of it they could look at, so agreement kept getting reached in the abstract and the investment case never quite closed.

A fragmented product suite was creating friction for users and limiting the platform’s potential

Internal teams lacked a shared reference point for what a unified platform might look like

The organisation needed more than a strategy deck. They needed something that could show, not just tell

Investment decisions and cross-team alignment depended on a validated, compelling vision

After

Six weeks produced high-fidelity prototypes built around real scenarios: incident investigations, policy and standards management, and automation across product boundaries. Each one pulled data from different products and surfaced context automatically.

One of them was a new tool, Automate, letting users build custom workflows from no-code triggers and actions. Flexibility without needing a developer, which is what customers had been asking for without quite saying so.

The prototypes changed the conversation from whether the products should be unified to how to build on what had been shown. RLDatix also came out with something it could put in front of customers.

What we did

01

Worked the real scenarios.

Sessions with product, engineering and senior leadership on workflows that already cut across the suite, rather than on the org chart.

02

Built it at fidelity.

Narrative-led prototypes reflecting specific user journeys, not concept sketches. Clickable Figma flows, journey visuals and a video walkthrough.

03

Proposed something new.

Automate came out of the work rather than the brief, answering a need for flexibility that wasn't being asked for directly.

04

Tested it internally and externally.

Stakeholders and end users, so feasibility and buy-in arrived together.

Our process for RLDatix

A disciplined hunt for value — the structure to explore the unknown without the usual cost of getting it wrong.
