An innovation roadmap the whole business got behind

Engineers, surveyors and contractors across five infrastructure organisations. What we found set twelve months of roadmap and gave product, commercial and leadership one view of who it was building for.

Sensat

Sensat transforms complex infrastructure data into an exact digital twin. Their cloud platform brings together everything from drone maps to engineering designs, allowing real-world teams to collaborate instantly and manage risk without setting foot on-site.

Sensat

Thunk accelerated our understanding of client workflows and needs. Uncovering opportunities and kick-starting ideas that contributed to the product roadmap for the next 12 months. The easy-to-consume output became a key part of our employee onboarding process.

Michele Battelli, Chief Product Officer, Sensat

Sensat’s platform, Mapp, was gaining traction with contractors, engineers and surveyors on complex infrastructure projects. Deciding what to build next meant knowing how those people actually worked, and that view didn’t exist anywhere in the business.

We spent time with users across five infrastructure organisations, and the findings set twelve months of roadmap that product, commercial and leadership all backed.

Before

Traction brings its own problem. Once a platform is working, every team develops a view about what should come next, and each view is supported by whatever that team can see.

Product, commercial and leadership were all confident about what customers needed, and none of them were looking at the same evidence. So roadmap arguments were settled by whoever made the strongest case rather than by what was true.

No clear, evidence-based view of how users actually worked or where it hurt

Product decisions made from scattered signals rather than structured insight

Different understandings of the customer across product, commercial and leadership

Roadmap priorities not confidently connected to user behaviour

After

Twelve months of roadmap, grounded in what customers did rather than what anyone believed they did.

The part that mattered was who agreed with it. Product, commercial and leadership were working from one structured view of the customer, so prioritisation stopped being a contest between departments.

It also stuck. Journey maps, opportunity areas and insight boards carrying audio from real users became part of how Sensat onboards new staff, so people joining now start with the customer rather than the product.

A structured view of real client workflows across construction and infrastructure

Clear opportunities to improve how field and office teams work together

Insight that directly shaped the twelve-month roadmap

Shared artefacts that aligned product, commercial and leadership on one picture

What we did

01

Went where the work happens.

Contractors, engineers and quantity surveyors across five infrastructure organisations, on live projects with real deadlines.

02

Looked for cost, friction and delay.

Not what people wanted, but what was slowing them down and what it was costing them.

03

Made the findings impossible to ignore.

Journey maps, opportunity areas and insight boards carrying direct audio from users, built to be shown in a room rather than filed.

04

Converted it into decisions.

Prioritised features, mapped capability gaps, and shaped twelve months of roadmap against both user need and market position.

Our process for Sensat

A disciplined hunt for value — the structure to explore the unknown without the usual cost of getting it wrong.
